ORNER'S MT BULLER

ROBUST MOUNTAIN LIVING / A CONTEMPORARY TRANSFORMATION

Perched high on Mount Buller, Orners Corner was reimagined through a thoughtful extension
and reworking of the existing lodge rather than a complete rebuild. By lifting the original structure and creating a new ground floor beneath, the footprint was expanded while carefully working within the site’s planning constraints. The result is a home that feels both grounded in its alpine setting and designed for modern family life on the mountain.

We were engaged to redesign the entire ground floor interior, reworking elements of the layout and designing custom joinery while selecting all fixtures, finishes, furniture and window furnishings throughout. A key part of the brief was ensuring the interiors felt as resolved and considered as the architecture itself. Drawing from the exterior palette of standing seam cladding, corten and zincalume, the interiors lean into darker timber tones, textured finishes and robust materials that create warmth, depth and cohesion.

Designed to support the realities of alpine living, practicality and durability were carefully considered at every turn. The drying room and storage areas were thoughtfully reconfigured to properly accommodate wet gear, boots and the rhythm of busy weekends on the slopes, while simple and hardworking joinery brings order and ease to everyday use. Original external cladding was repurposed internally as wall lining, reducing waste while adding character and continuity throughout the home. Layered textiles, wool carpets, natural stone and soft window furnishings balance the darker palette, creating a calm and inviting retreat that feels both functional and deeply connected to its mountain surroundings.
